Homeschooling Pros and Cons

If you are a parent of a child who is reaching the age to begin education, you have a few options for schooling ranging from traditional public and private schooling institutions to homeschooling your child at home. When homeschooling your child, there are a few pros and cons to consider before making a decision on whether or not homeschooling is suitable for your child's personality and preference when learning.

Pros of homeschooling

A few pros of homeschooling range from having the ability to create and direct your child's lesson plans on a daily basis to ensure the proper learning of essential material you want your child to focus on. Homeschooling allows you to freely teach your child the basics of math, science and other subjects in and outside of a traditional classroom setting (allowing you to travel on self-proclaimed field trips to art museums or the zoo to write a report). Another pro of homeschooling is the ability to spend one on one time with your child to focus on problem areas to ensure he or she learns the material thoroughly before moving on to the subject.

Cons of homeschooling

Although there are worries of socialization problems or issues with children who are home-schooled by a parent, there are plenty of outside social groups, sporting teams and other organizations to help with building your child's social skills and comfort level (ranging from drama class to school sport clubs).

Whether you have experience with education or if you are a new parent and new to homeschooling altogether, homeschooling is an option for all parents regardless of educational background (in accordance with official state education laws).
